  Star anise gets its name from its shape – it is the star-shaped fruit of a small evergreen tree native to China. The tree can grow to 26 ft tall and does not bear a harvestable crop of seeds until it is about 6 years old.

    Hot Curry Powder is similar to Mild Curry Powder except it has additional heat added. It is a blend of many spices and is used widely in savory dishes throughout India and Southeast Asia.  
         
    Chervil is a herb that is native to Eastern Europe. In days gone by, Chervil was sometimes mistaken for 'Myrrh' because it had a very volatile oil and its aroma smelled like myrrh. Chervil is not very popular in North America but it is one of the most popular herbs in French cuisine. Chervil is an important ingredient in the traditional French herb blend: Fine Herbs.  
         
    Mustard is one of the oldest culinary and medicinal spices. The name mustard comes from the Latin mustum ardens or burning must. This spice was so named because the seeds were pounded with grape juice or must and the marriage of the two pungent ingredients developed, hence burning.  
         
    Pepper is the world’s most popular spice with a great history. In the past pepper was more valuable than gold. In the early 5th century 3,000 pounds of pepper was demanded for ransom of Rome.
